Frame+SGML Writer - Authoring Structured Documents
This class teaches you how to create or author
documents using Adobe FrameMaker+SGML. After taking this course,
the individual will be able to edit existing documents or create
new documents from scratch using previously created templates
Length: 2 days
Attendees:
Technical writers, engineers, anyone who
needs to create structured / SGML documents using FrameMaker+SGML.
Prerequisite:
This course assumes no prior experience with
FrameMaker+SGML or any other Frame/Adobe products. Basic computer
literacy and working experience with computer windows, dialog
boxes and menus is assumed.
Topics include:
- setting up working environment preferences;
- document, home and network settings;
- document, structure views, catalogs, palettes;
- status, view and palette regions;
- using the element catalog to `guide' authoring;
- parent-child element structures;
- container and object elements;
- using the structure view and element catalog to create/modify
elements;
- adding element attributes;
- adding structured graphics, footnotes, index and cross references;
- adding and modifying structures tables;
- working with structured books;
- validating and correcting documents structure;

Frame+SGML Creator - Building Document Structure
This class teaches you how to create or author
documents using Adobe FrameMaker+SGML. After taking this course,
the individual will be able to edit existing documents or create
new documents from scratch using previously created templates.
Length: 3 days.
Attendees:
Technical writers who needs to design and
build structured templates. These templates will be used by writers,
engineers, etc.
Prerequisites:
This course requires both the FrameCreator
and Frame+SGML User course completion.
Topics include:
- analyzing formatted documents for inherent structure;
- creating container and object elements;
- specifying format rules;
- rule inclusions and exclusions;
- connectors and occurrence indicators;
- defining context specific rules;
- merging formats into low level elements;
- attribute definitions;
- object elements - index markers, cross references, variables;
- defining book objects;

FrameOnline - PDF and HTML generation, 2 days
Prerequisite: FrameCreator course
This course is designed for FrameMaker users
who will want to create Adobe Acrobat PDF and HTML files. The
user must be familiar with Acrobat Reader and Netscape Navigator.
This course includes:
Hypertext (FrameReader, FrameViewer, Acrobat, HTML)
- setting up master hypertext layouts;
- creating hypertext buttons and links with graphics;
- fixes for using more than FrameMaker's eight colour limit;
- creating window and print oriented documents in hypertext
systems.
Conditional text
- viewing documents using condition criteria;
- creating conditional tags;
- setting up master conditional documents;
- editing text in conditional documents.
Acrobat
- generating bookmarks;
- index and TOC setup;
- graphic file management;
- fonts: TrueType, PostScript Type 1, OpenType, substitution;
- PDFWriter vs. Distiller issues;
- PostScript file generation;
- Acrobat Distiller.
HTML
- HTML paragraph naming conventions;
- mapping FrameMaker tags to HTML tags
- manipulating reference page definitions;
