Macintosh OSX 10.3 - Installation and Migration

If you are currently using QuarkXpress 3/4/5 or Macintosh System 8/9, you will need to migrate to OSX 10.3 to use the Adobe Creative Suite (CS) products.

System Backup

Our Apple System engineer will first take the required steps to protect your current computer data and environment:

  • document current setup,
  • identify any incompatible software,
  • review with owner/user,
  • backup complete system, documents, fonts and preferences,
  • ensuse all required network, printer and peripheral drivers are available,

Installation

Following backup, the computer must be prepared for installation:

  • check integrity of hard drive(s),
  • reformat with journaled HFS+ file system,
  • install OS 10.3 and required updates/service packs
  • install OS9 Classic environment
  • create root, Admin and User accounts,
  • set up network, printer, sharing environment.

Install Applications and utilities

Upon completion of the "clean" installation, the user's upgraded applications and utilities will be intalled:

  • install Adobe CS products,
  • install old applications into Classic environment,
  • intall required utility software.

User orientation

The owner/user will be given doumentation for the new system setup. This will include:

  • documentation of the OSX environment,
  • documentation of the new Classic environment,
  • brief orientation of new access for the different user configurations.
